Management class Reflection

By the end of the semester we will have covered tons of topics (ok, not tons literally –but a lot of material) and discussed many practical tools you can use as a future manager. While I like to think the material is so insightful you will find it all of value –it’s also easy to be overwhelmed by so much theory

So,START by reflecting on all of the topics, discussions, assignments and your personal learnings from this class (just reflect –don’t write about all the topics).

Then FIRST, describe THREE TOPICS that really made an impact on you –three concepts or discussions we had in class that stuck with you. Tell me why they are important to you. Describe how what you’ve learned relates to experiences before or during this class. How have you seen the theory discussed in class in real life? Have you already tried using some of the theory/skills discussed in class?

And then SECOND, since as we’ve learned, management is all about moving forward,

tell me ONE THINGyou will do differently because of this class. It may be related to your three topics, an interesting combination of them, or something totally unrelated. But it should clearly be something you are going to DO. Describe how you plan on using this skill and putting it into action. What will you DO differently tomorrow? How will you make sure this one thing sticks?

This is a short and sweet assignment –~2000 words. Give me a clear powerful opening. Discuss the threetopics that have stuck with you. Finish off strongly with a clear explanation of what you will do going forward and tie everything together with a clear conclusion.Again, this assignment can be handed in via email.

Developing management skills was a class that I found challenging. It pushed me out of my comfort zone and gave me a perspective of what exists in the real world. Management skills are essential because they help you develop self-awareness and emotional intelligence and position you to be an effective leader and manager.

Overall, I’ve learned a lot of skills and concepts in this class, but in this paper, I will explain the 3 skills/concepts that have helped and will stick with me—the first being stress management and how to manage it effectively. The 2nd is self-awareness and how a self-aware leader and manager can distinguish their influence on the people around them. Finally, the third one is the communication model and how all great leaders and managers have strong communication skills.
