We’ve seen and studied a lot of art together, from the Chauvet Cave to Fountain. Each movement has helped to share new ideas and philosophies about how humans view the world.

Please view this video (~6 minutes) and respond to the following questions:

Draft a definition of art in your own words (no cheating with the Internet!) What should a piece of art do?

Do you think artistic tastes should be geared towards the viewers’ tastes or the artist and his/her message? Why or why not?

Now that you’ve had a good overview through this course, do you agree with Florczak that modern art is “bad”? If so, do you think we should change up the system in the ways he recommends (last bit of his presentation)? Feel free to reference any piece(s) we’ve studied. I don’t necessarily agree with him, but I have heard others express similar notions.

Which art piece(s) from the semester was your favorite? Which art piece(s) was your least favorite? Briefly explain why (no judgment).
