Criminology versus Victimology

Criminology, as a study, stresses on learning about the lawbreakers, offenses committed, and the intentions behind criminal activities. It studies how the open public and the criminal justice devices can react to the crimes, the processes of recidivism, and treatment (Siegel, 2019). Criminology adapts a retributive model of preventing crime and disciplining a person who commits the crime. On the other hand, victimology tends to emphasize on the victim rather than the criminal (Gladchi, 2019). This is done by restoring the patient to the state he/she was before getting victimized. Victimology seeks to minimize the rates of victimization, unnecessary expenses, and suffering. It also ensures that there is healing of the victim and the community’s romantic relationship.  Victimology started as a means of understanding the hyperlink between the scampers and the subject.

Both criminology and victimology are applicable in the real world of criminal investigations. Criminology helps in understanding the crimes committed and greatly contributes to understanding how to arrest and punish the crime doers (Xu, 2012). On the other hand, victimology helps with criminal investigations by looking at the victim’s side, knowing how he/she was affected by the crime, and seeking to provide justice to the victim by punishing the wrongdoer.

Criminology involves analyzing and interpreting evidence using the natural sciences, where it is vital to help law enforcement agents solve crimes (Gladchi, 2019).  The two greatly aid in solving crimes by profiling the criminal and the victim, understanding the cause of the crime, and seeking justice to the affected persons, judging and punishment to the perpetrators of crime. They also help law enforces to learn about the tactics and strategies of criminals based on past experiences, where they hence work towards preventing the crimes from happening.
