you will need to complete a 8-10 page paper in which you choose one of the 6 debate areas on the ethics sign-up sheet (abortion, fair tax, universal healthcare, affirmative action, gun control, DACA). Pick a side, for or against. Then pick an ethical theory from the three that we discussed in class (utilitarianism, deontology, virtue ethics). You must make a case for your position on your chosen issue through your chosen ethical theory. You should demonstrate understanding of the issue and its facets in contemporary conversations. I am looking for you to make a compelling case that reflects what a person using your chosen theory might say. This is your argument, so while reliance on outside sources is legitimate, you need to demonstrate that you can make a case. Stringing together a bunch of quotations does not demonstrate that you can. My preference is that you choose a position that you might not already be inclined to take. You are to make a philosophical case, not a theological one. The purpose of this assignment is to demonstrate that you understand how one might hold the position that s/he holds, perhaps even a position that has historically confused you. I’m not necessarily looking for you to present what you believe. Again, this is an exercise in understanding. See Tuesday’s (11/10) lecture for a fuller rationale here. Please let me know if you have any questions. The paper is due on the last day of class (Thursday, November 19). Email the paper to me. The paper should be double-spaced, with 1-inch margins using 12-point Times New Roman font. NOTE TO WRITER: This is a Bible College. Keep that in mind when writing the pape
